Around 30 farmers from the city graduated from the season-long training on selected vegetables agribusiness held on July 7, 2017 in Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City. The season-long training ran from March to July 2017 and was spearheaded by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the Landcare Foundation Philippines, in partnership with Normin Veggies Marketing Cooperative, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City, and private stakeholders and supported by the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10). With the theme, “Ang panguma isip usa ka negosyo, makauswag sa kinabuhi,” the training was participated by the members of the Canitoan Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (CAFAMCO) and the Pagatpat Cagayan de Oro Farmers Association Incorporated (PACAFAI), in which they were taught on land preparation, soil sampling, and strategies on planting vegetables such as eggplant, tomato, string beans and ampalaya. Retailers from Bulua and Cogon market are invited to visit the CAFAMCO learning site on July 12, 2017 to encourage them to buy vegetables from the farmers. In behalf of DA-RFO 10 OIC Regional Director Carlene C. Collado, Regional Technical Director Carmelita T. Bajarla thanked the LGU, headed by city councilor and committee on agriculture chair Annie Y. Daba and city agriculturist Dr. Hector R. San Juan, DVM, as well as the private sector that they were able to unite for agriculture as well as agribusiness. # (AMBManto, DA-RFO 10)
