SOA-Cacao-Graduates

Farmers from the provinces of Misamis Oriental and the first district of Bukidnon graduated from the three-month long School-on-the Air (SOA) Program on Cacao Production and Processing on September 7, 2017 held in Cagayan de Oro City.

With the joint efforts of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) through its Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS), and the provincial government of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon and the city agriculture office of Cagayan de Oro, around 200 farmers have benefitted from the radio program which ran from June to August 2017.

Included in the course module were the basics on cacao production, pests and diseases management and control, and marketing of their products.

“SOA is very practical because we do not have to go outside our homes to learn. I am very thankful to DA for this program for reaching out to far flung places in the region,” first honor Rebecca R. Galupo from Manolo Fortich shared.

Second honor Angelie R. Verde from Manolo Fortich, meanwhile, expressed her gratitude to the people behind the program and stated, “Maski kita nga mga nanay, busy man gyud ta pero gi-tagaan ta nila’g higayon nga maka-eskwela ta pinaagi sa SOA program. Daghan kaayo’g natabang sa atoa kay gi-tudloan gyud ta unsaon mag-atiman gikan sa land prep padulong sa post harvest.  (Although we mothers have busy schedules, they gave us an opportunity to learn through the conduct of their SOA program. It helped us a lot since they taught us from land preparation to post harvest.)”

Also awarded as outstanding graduates were Kathleen U. Galamiton of Talakag (3rd), Anastacio R. Mamaril of Balingasag (4th), Teodora L. Laureto of Manolo Fortich (4th), Janette V. Putong of Talakag (5th), Cerina B. Navales (6th) and Jocelyn A. Hernandez (7th) of Balingasag, Flora Mae S. Resane of Manolo Fortich (8th) and Ciriaca C. Morena of Balingasag (9th).

RAFIS chief Mary Grace B. Sta. Elena is hopeful that the cacao market in the region would boost following the conduct of the program.

Although the SOA on Cacao Production and Processing comes to an end, the agency still continues its information- dissemination advocacy as it begins its SOA on Banana Production for the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Camiguin. # (AMBManto, DA-RFO10)
