The Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) through its Regulatory Division conducted a two-day training and workshop on Drone Operation on September 5-6, 2017, here in the city of Cagayan de Oro. In his message, Luisito S. Ofngol, senior agriculturist and Plant Health Regulatory Services Section (PHRS) chief of the Regulatory Division said that, “The use of technology could improve the operations for each operating unit for the betterment of our services to our agri-clienteles.” With this equipment at hand, the DA through the leadership of OIC Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, CPA can monitor immediately pests and diseases infestation and can recommend appropriate measure for management and control so as to minimize crop damage. The event was participated by the research and operations staff of the department and it was undertaken to impart the basics on drone operation – which was discussed by Edgar Allan Po, PhD, faculty member of the College of Agriculture at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP). Meanwhile, the use of the said device will aid in the research and operations of the agency, including, but not limited to, the gathering of information and documentation as well as improving crop monitoring. # (AMBManto, DA-RFO10)
