DA-turnovers 120M agri-fishery projects to MisOcc

DA chief leads the turn-over of assistance in terms of farm inputs, machineries, equipment, facilities, among others to support the farming and fishing activities of the farmers and fisherfolk, in the province of MisOcc. Joining the agriculture secretary are MisOcc Gov. Herminia M. Ramiro, Vice-Governor Aurora M. Almonte, DA-10 OIC-RD Carlene C. Collado, CPA, Provincial Agriculturist Dennis Leopoldo, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan board members Dodge L. Cabahug, Sr. and Zaldy G. Daminar.

Oroquieta City – To further spur the agri-fishery sector, and augment the productivity and income of marginal farmers in Misamis Occidental, the Department of Agriculture (DA) recently turned over the province and its respective local government units nearly P120 million (M)-worth of agri-fishery inputs, machineries, equipment and facilities, and Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) project.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol personally presented the downpour of assistance to MisOcc Governor Herminia M. Ramiro, local chief executives and other officials and its beneficiaries, yesterday, November 27, 2017 at the Provincial Grounds, during the province’s 88th foundation anniversary.

The agriculture chief was assisted by DA USec. for Fisheries and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) National Director Eduardo B. Gongona, DA-Regional Field Office 10 OIC-Regional Director Carlene C. Collado, CPA and Assistant Regional Director Engr. Roxana H. Hojas, CESO IV, and BFAR-10 OIC-RD Asuncion J. Maputol.

Piñol remarked before a crowd of farmers and fisherfolk, noting that he is just bringing back the money [taxes] of the people through the department’s delivery of services.

Included in the roster of turned-over projects is the P99.7-M worth rehabilitation and concreting of 4.24 kilometer-FMR with bridges project in the municipality of Clarin, funded by DA’s special project, Philippine Rural Development Project.

The agency’s banner programs, including Corn, allotted funding amounting to P4.9 M for 2 units four-wheel drive (4WD) 95-horsepower (hp) farm tractor, 3 units cassava grater, 1 unit cassava chipper, and 2 units mechanical sheller, as well. Rice also contributed P1.9 M for the provision of 1 unit 4WD 36-hp farm tractor, 2 units rice transplanter, 2 units hand tractor and 5 units floating tiller-mudboat.

Livestock program also apportioned P1.6-M worth of funding for 5 units silage chopper, 2 units LN2 and 2 units artificial insemination kit while the High Value Crops Development program distributed 390 kilograms of assorted seeds, varying from eggplant (50kg), watermelon (50kg), okra (110kg), upo (110kg), peanut (10kg), sweet pepper (30kg), bell pepper (20kg) and carrots (10kg), amounting to some P462 thousand.

Cited projects of DA-RFO 10 will benefit the PLGU-MisOcc, the municipalities of Aloran, Baliangao, Calamba, Jimenez, Lopez Jaena, Plaridel, Sapang Dalaga, Don Victoriano, Sinacaban, Tudela, and the cities of Oroquieta and Tangub.

Meanwhile, DA-BFAR turned-over some P10-M worth of fishery projects. This includes 2 units 32-footer patrol boats as assistance to law enforcement of the Iligan Bay Alliance of MisOcc (IBAMO), and 150 units 23-footer fiberglass boat with complete accessories as livelihood assistance to fisherfolk beneficiaries all over MisOcc.

In addition, 25 bottom sets crab net and 20 sets municipal fish aggregating device (payao) were provided to fisherfolk-beneficiaries in Bonifacio and Oroquieta City, respectively.

More support for MisOcc’ agri-fishery sector thru financing

On top of the turned-over projects, the agriculture secretary further expressed additional support to the province with his assurance of addressing the farmers and fisherfolk’s lack of credit through the Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) program.

DA Sec. Piñol addresses the hundreds of farmers and fisherfolk in attendance for the 88th provincial anniversary celebration of MisOcc, saying that the initiatives under DA are geared towards the directive of PRRD of leaving behind a legacy to the country that is safe for the children of tomorrow, where food is available and affordable.

“I am here to commit to you for the province of MisOcc a loaning amount of P100 million,” the DA chief announced, saying that this intervention will make sure that they won’t go to loan sharks to borrow money.

Should they be interested, Sec. Piñol emphasized that farmers and fisherfolk should organize themselves for greater access in the availment of the said loan, of which they could use to finance any of their agri-production related ventures.
