Aggie-NorMin retools staff on disaster risk reduction, management
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To keep its personnel abreast with the mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), the Department of Agriculture – Northern Mindanao Regional Field Office (Aggie NorMin), through its DRRM Unit, conducted a capacity enhancement and retooling on DRRM, September 30, in this city.
Attended by Aggie-NorMin personnel from its banner programs, special projects, and concerned divisions, the activity aims to identify possible agricultural hazards and risks, plan strategies to reduce them, and strengthen coordination among members of the DRRM team for faster and more efficient disaster response and recovery mitigation.

During his presentation, Sherafin Simon P. Calacar, DA-10 DRRM Report Officer, underscored the importance of the activity in strengthening institutional capacities across the four thematic areas of the DRRM framework namely, Prevention and Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Early Recovery, and Rehabilitation and Recovery.
“By enhancing the understanding and capabilities of DA personnel, this orientation helps build a more proactive and resilient agriculture sector in the region,” Calacar added.
Meanwhile, DA-10 Field Operations Division Chief and DRRM Focal Person, Dr. Luz I. Guzman, highlighted the importance of capacitating the DA-10 staff with the right knowledge and skills in order to effectively respond to emergencies and help calamity-hit farmers and fisherfolk.
“With trainings like this, I hope that this will gear you in gathering accurate information from the field, as it becomes the agency’s basis to provide appropriate assistance to affected farmers,” Dr. Guzman said. # (CRS)
