DA-NorMin bolsters MisOr farmers’ production, distributes seeds, fertilizers, and other support inputs

MISAMIS ORIENTAL — Following the turnover of two farm tractor units to Claveria-based farmers’ associations and cooperatives (FCAs), the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-NorMin) ramps up its support to MisOr farmers through the distribution of various agricultural production support inputs on October 16, held at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Agriculture Development Complex (MOPADC) in Barangay Ane-i, Claveria.

Rice farmers in Balingasag received 41 bags of hybrid rice seeds and 68 bags of fertilizers under the agency’s Rice Program, aimed at helping them recover from production setbacks brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat). To promote crop and income diversification, the DA-NorMin’s Various Production Support Services (VPSS) extended additional aid through 78 packets of 5-in-1 vegetable seeds.

The Higaonon Indigenous Cultural Community also received five rolls of sakolin (trapal) from the agency’s Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program, to support their post-harvest activities such as commodity drying and other agricultural operations.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Misamis Oriental received 310 plastic crates from the DA-NorMin’s High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) and Organic Agriculture Program (OAP). These will be distributed to farmers and FCAs in the province to support efficient crop handling and preservation of produce quality.

Through its banner programs and coordination with LGUs and other stakeholders, DA-NorMin continues to serve diverse groups of farmers, from lowland and upland cultivators, climate-affected farmers, to indigenous people, in achieving the “Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya, Para sa Bagong Pilipinas”.# (BJCE)
