MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON – Aiming to further strengthen public awareness on responsible rice consumption, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) staged an Information Caravan (InfoCar) on November 14, at the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC), in Dalwangan, this city.

The activity forms part of the DA-10’s observance of the National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) this year, with the theme “Be RICEponsible”, to promote wiser rice eating habits and greater support for local rice farmers.

In her discussion, Mary Grace B. Sta. Elena, Agri-Normin Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) chief, emphasized the importance of the “A BA KA DA” in the DA’s campaign to achieve rice suffiency in the country:

•A – Adlay, mais, saba, atbp, ay ihalo sa kanin
•Ba – Brown rice ay kainin
•Ka – Kanin ay huwag sayangin
•Da – Dapat Bigas ng Pilipinas ang bilhin

Sta. Elena urged participants to adopt these practices in their day-to-day life to help strengthen local rice production and support Filipino farmers.

The InfoCar is part of DA-10’s continuing initiative to bring timely agricultural information, innovations, and government services closer to farmers and fisherfolk across Northern Mindanao.

Similar activity will be conducted in other provinces of the region to expand the DA’s information dissemination efforts for unified initiatives toward strengthened agricultural production system.# (EJLG)
