Agri-10 links NorMin farmers to direct market, supports OP-led veggie distribution benefitting three regions

To support the Office of the President’s (OP) vegetable distribution initiative, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) facilitated market linkages and transport assistance for vegetable farmers, cooperatives, and associations in Northern Mindanao on April 30.

A total of 54,816 kilograms of assorted vegetables valued at PhP1,885,202.05 sourced from Claveria, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon province, which were consolidated and delivered to recipient regions, namely: NorMin, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as part of the government’s food mobilization initiative.

The bulk of the supply at 20,775 kilograms worth PhP734,655.00 were transported to Buadiposo, Lanao del Sur. It consisted of highland vegetables such as Baguio beans, chayote, potatoes, chili and bell peppers, cabbage, squash, and pechay sourced from farmer groups in Impasug-ong and Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

Meanwhile, 17,605 kilograms valued at PhP456,917.05 were allocated for Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, including chayote, tomato, spring onion, cucumber, cabbage, squash, and potato sourced from producers in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon province.

In Talakag, Bukidnon, 16,436 kilograms of assorted vegetables such as ‘pinakbet’ veggies, chayote, other high-value crops, and sweet potato amounting to PhP693,630.00 were bought from local farmers and nearby towns of Lantapan and Baungon, both of Bukidnon, and distributed to households within the municipality.

Said activity provided market access for vegetable farmers in NorMin while supporting the OP’s distribution requirements in identified recipient areas through the facilitated direct purchase and delivery of locally grown produce, increasing farmers’ income by cutting trading layers and enhancing access to food for households.# (NQA)
