Agri-NorMin supports promotion of improved corn prod’n in Cabanglasan town
CABANGLASAN, Bukidnon — The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (Agri-NorMin), through Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan, joined efforts to promote improved corn production technologies during the DK/AH 8719S Harvest Festival and Field Day held on September 11, in Brgy. Poblacion, here.
The activity featured a field demonstration of the AH 8719S hybrid corn variety, where farmers and other participants observed its performance under actual field conditions and learned about its recommended production and management practices.

According to the variety’s product information, AH 8719S has a yield potential of 10 to 12 metric tons per hectare and features bold kernels, sturdy stalks, medium ear placement, and erect, stay-green leaves. It also carries the dual-trait MON89034 X NK603 technology, known as VT Double Pro and Roundup Ready Corn 2, which provides glyphosate tolerance for weed management and protection against select corn insect pests.
Per product material description, it also offers protection against Asian Corn Borer, Corn Earworm, Common Cutworm, and Fall Armyworm, as well as tolerance to Gibberella Ear Rot and Diplodia Ear Rot.
Depending on elevation, the variety is further reported to reach maturity in 110 to 115 days after planting in low-elevation areas and 120 to 130 days in high-elevation zones. Its recommended planting density is 70,000 to 75,000 plants per hectare, subject to adjustments based on soil fertility and other production conditions.
The field day formed part of Agri-10’s continuing engagement with the private sector in facilitating farmers’ access to information on improved corn technologies and production practices. Importantly, it gave local farmers an opportunity to assess the variety under field conditions and consider its suitability to their respective farms.# (JLPC)
