DA-10 reinforces Animal Welfare Law enforcement in NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY— Aimed at strengthening enforcement of animal welfare regulations in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Agriculture (DA-10) through its Regulatory Division held a three-day capacitation training for Animal Welfare Enforcement Officers (AWEO) on September 15-17, 2026, here.

In collaboration with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), the DA-10 apprised law enforcers such as personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), government veterinarians and animal welfare advocates on the salient provisions of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), capacitating them to employ legal means in responding to animal cruelty cases.

As part of the training, the AWEO underwent hands-on case workshops covering AWA enforcement mechanisms, and penalties for violation as provided under the law.

The training fostered stronger coordination between law enforcement and veterinary authorities to improve investigation procedures, evidence handling, and prosecution of animal welfare cases.

By deepening its cooperation with the PNP, NBI and other veterinary authorities, the DA-10 continues to uphold collaborative initiatives for the prevention of animal cruelty incidence in the region. # (DFCQ)
