Handog ng Pangulo ushers P20/kilo rice to 16,250 NorMin locals

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Not less than 16,250 Northern Mindanao residents availed of the PhP20 per kilo (P20) rice during the Handog ng Pangulo (HNP) on September 14.

Led by the Department of Agriculture – Food Terminal, Inc. (DA-FTI) together with the Department of Agriculture – Region 10 (DA-10) and the National Food Authority-Region 10 (NFA-10), in coordination with the concerned provincial and city governments, the P20 rice was made available during the simultaneous conduct of the HNP Serbisyo Fair in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin and Iligan City.

Each individual beneficiary purchased 10 kilos of P20 rice, allowing local residents to maximize their budget for food like Girlie Asinero, a farmer from Brgy. Mambuaya, CdeO City.

“Dako kaayo og ika-tabang kay sa 200 pesos nimo 10 na ka kilo [sa bugas], samantalang sa market karon naa siya sa mga 50 [per kilo]. So dako g’yud ni siya nga tabang sa mga in need. Naa na ta’y ma save, masud-an na pares sa bugas. Daghang salamat President Bongbong Marcos sa imong pagtabang ilabi na sa amo mga kabos, mga mag-uuma” she said.

(This is a great help because, with 200 pesos, you can get 10 kilos of rice, whereas in the market, price is around 50 per kilo. So, this is truly beneficial to those in need. We can save a little to buy food that goes with the rice. Thank you very much, President Bongbong Marcos, for your help, especially for the poor like us, the farmers.)

The P20 rice roll out stems from President Marcos’ administration’s commitment to make affordable, safe and nutritious food accessible to all Filipinos as the government eyes food self-sufficiency for the country.

Apart from the P20 rice, local residents also availed of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and other basic food needs from the Kadiwa Market.

The HNP convened national and local government instrumentalities in one venue to bring government’s livelihood, medical, legal, educational and social services closer to the people.# (ATT)
