InfoCar brings agri updates, services closer to MisOr farmers, extension workers in Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — In its continued efforts to bring vital agricultural information and services closer to farming communities, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (Aggie-NorMin), through its Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS), conducted an Information Caravan for farmers and agricultural extension workers from Misamis Oriental on July 28, here.

The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and access to Aggie-NorMin programs, projects, and services among farmers while fostering stronger collaboration between the agency and local government units through their agricultural extension workers.

In her remarks, RAFIS Chief Mary Grace B. Sta. Elena emphasized the significance of providing farmers with timely and relevant information that can help improve productivity, strengthen resilience, and maximize available government support.

Discussions focused on El Niño preparedness, where participants were briefed on the possible impacts of dry conditions on agriculture and the importance of adopting climate-resilient practices and utilizing available interventions to minimize production risks.

The National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) campaign was also presented, highlighting responsible rice consumption, the reduction of food wastage, and the importance of supporting locally produced rice as part of efforts toward achieving rice self-sufficiency.

Meanwhile, Aggie-NorMin’s agricultural digitalization initiatives were also underscored, particularly the use of digital tools for farmer profiling, farm monitoring, disaster reporting, and enhancing the delivery of DA assistance, including production support, machinery and equipment, market linkages, and other agricultural services.

The caravan also featured an interfacing session, providing attendees with an avenue to raise concerns, seek clarifications, and convene with Aggie-NorMin personnel.

Said activity further reinforces the department’s commitment under its “Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas” battlecry by promoting science- and information-driven decision-making, bolstering partnerships with stakeholders, and pursuing efforts toward a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector in Northern Mindanao. #(JLO)
