Agribiz coordinators undergo capabuild on price and commodity monitoring systems, which will aid the monitoring of abnormal price movements; thereby, protecting consumers and farmers against price manipulation.

 

To effectively monitor prices and volume of agricultural commodities, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) conducted a hands-on training on the Bantay Presyo Monitoring System (BPMS) and Trading Post Commodity Volume Watch (TPCVW) on September 7-8, 2022, held in Cagayan de Oro City.

Spearheaded by the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division of the agency, agribusiness coordinators from the different cities, municipalities and provinces gathered for the two-day event.

“This activity is anchored on Republic Act No. 7581, otherwise known as the Price Act, which aims to monitor abnormal price movements to protect consumers and farmers alike against price manipulation,” shared Supervising Agriculturist Ferdinand F. Caraballe of DA-10 AMAD.

Discussions focused on price and supply monitoring guidelines as well as a walkthrough on data entry into the BPMS and TPCVW monitoring system, which are used for price monitoring updates posted thru the DA website and social media.

Following this, the participants also underwent an actual price monitoring activity in the markets within the city, including Bulua and Cogon. # (AMBManto)
