DA-10 turns over more than P6.73 package of interventions for Pangantucan-coffee-based coop, Bayanihan Millenium Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

PANGANTUCAN, BUKIDNON – To support one of the flourishing coffee communities in Bukidnon province, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 headed by OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, turned over more than P6.73 million (M) worth of a package of interventions for the Pangantucan coffee-based group, Bayanihan Millenium Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BMMPC), in barangay Pigtauranan, on March 20, 2023.

RED Collado together with Field Operations Division chief Luz I. Guzman, Phd, Bukidnon Provincial Operations Center chief Janet D. Lopez, DVM, and HVCDP focal person Kersten S. Pagalan, turned over said assistance, comprising 12 components, to the local government unit of Pangantucan and BMMPC, represented by Pangantucan municipal mayor Miguel A. Silva Jr. and BMMPC chairman Porferio S. Sayson, respectively.

Included in the roster of interventions are the P2-M hauling truck, 31,250 pieces of coffee seedlings (P1.5625K), processing facility (P1-M), coffee roasting machine (P625K), plant nursery (P500K), and two units of depulper (P240K).

Rounding up the list of assistance are the P226.5K-valued six units of production/sorting table, grinding machine (P190K), dehuller (P147K), five units of moisture meter (P139.75K), vacuum pack sealer (P70.5K), and three units grass cutter (P30K).

Implemented by the High Value Crops Development Program under CY 2021 funding, the package of interventions aimed at increasing coffee production was given allocation through the Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act for its Coffee Community-Based Farm Enterprise Development: Farm Rehabilitation and Improvement component with coconut being intercropped with cacao and coffee.

In which, enterprise projects were accorded to Pangantucan and also, Talakag, Bukidnon.

“The project is just among the interventions that DA-10 has provided your coop. With that, we hope that it will greatly help to provide labor to your community, increase the income of your coffee farmers, and for your coffee to expand [even more its reach] outside of Bukidon,” Dir. Collado said.

With the progress of BMMPC, in that, the increasing coffee exports to Luzon and even abroad, RED Collado also encouraged the coop to submit project proposals whenever necessary.

He further reminded the coop that DA provides interventions, as long as their objectives qualify to DA’s budget and goal for the Philippine coffee industry.

The BMMPC holds the distinction of quality coffee beans, as seven of its members won the Northern Mindanao Coffee Quality Competition, held earlier on March 18, 2023.

Said competition was organized by the Regional Coffee Council and the Department of Trade and Industry in the region, the United States DA, among others. # (RLTolentino)
