Agri 10 conducts a training on AI and pregnancy diagnosis on large ruminants for livestock technicians regionwide.

 

MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) through its Livestock program, conducted a 20-day Basic Training on Artificial Insemination (AI) and Pregnancy Diagnosis (PD) on Large Ruminants at its research stations in Bukidnon.

Around 30 livestock AI technicians coming from the provincial, municipal and city local government units (LGUs) were trained at the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and Livestock Research Complex (NMACLRC), Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, and the Research Center for Upland Development, Barongcot, Dangcagan, Bukidnon from February 28, 2023 to March 19, 2023.

The participants from the LGUs of Balingasag, Laguindingan, Claveria, and the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Misamis Oriental; Bonifacio, and Calamba, Misamis Occidental; Kapatagan, and Tubod, Lanao del Norte; Kitaotao, Lantapan, and the PVO of Bukidnon; and technicians from DA-10 Livestock and Malaybalay Stock Farm underwent said capabuild, comprising of lectures and practicum with various ranchers on actual AI and PD applications.

Citing the participants’ important role in developing their respective livestock breeding programs in their localities and stations, DA-10 OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado underscored that by gaining knowledge, skills, and techniques on how to effectively perform AI and PD on large ruminants, they will significantly contribute to the development of the cattle and carabao industries with an emphasis on increasing population.

He added that AI is a tool and practical approach to upgrading and improving our stocks in terms of growth rate and breeding efficiency.

DA-10 Field Operations Division chief Luz I. Guzman, PhD, emphasized that the training course will also help the participants to become more capacitated in implementing their respective AI re-entry plan in his/her area of assignment, and more importantly, impart knowledge on the usefulness of AI and large ruminant (cattle and carabao) husbandry practices among farmer-clients.

Capping the almost month-long capabuild, DA-10 Provincial Operations Chief of Bukidnon Janet D. Lopez, DVM, and Livestock Focal Person, Jamaica L. Docdoc further led in the handover of certificates of completion to the livestock AI technicians. # (RDMElloren)
