Agri 10 participates in women’s summit, at the same time renders lectures as well as provides seeds assistance to women-attendees.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Celebrating the role of women, not only in the family but also in society, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) headed by OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, joins the annual National Women’s Summit spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women – North Mindanao Field Office (PCW-NMFO).

Bearing the theme: “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” DA-10 offered its services in collaboration with PWC-NMFO at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP), in this city on March 27, 2023.

The latter organized several regional agencies to provide assistance, training, and opportunities to members of the women development council, Tingog sa Kasanag (TISAKA), Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI), solo parents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, indigenous people, city scholar mothers, entrepreneurs, and victims-survivors of violence, trafficking, and drug dependents.

PCW executive director Atty. Kristine E. Yuzon-Chavez reiterated the objective of the event, saying, “this month is about celebrating ourselves, our womanness, and recognizing our journey and hardships—of how we thrived.”

DA-10 technical staff lectured on urban gardening and beekeeping during the breakout session. To further boost its efforts in ensuring food sustainability and promoting urban gardening, the agency also continued with its seed assistance distribution, wherein 500 packets of vegetable seeds were provided to the participants, including other breakout session groups.

As the Philippines has been recognized in the global top 10 most gender-equal countries and is number one in Asia, Atty. Chavez further extended her appreciation to the government agencies, local government units, and private partners for their services and assistance, and who continue to pledge their commitment and support to advocate for women’s rights and empowerment.# (RLTolentino)
