CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A workshop for the development of the Muleta Watershed Convergence Area Development Plan (CADP) was held in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on May 16-19, 2023.

Led by the National Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development (NCI-SRD), the workshop was attended by the members of the Regional Convergence Initiative – Technical Working Group (RCI-TWG) which is composed of the Department of Agriculture –10 (DA-10) as the lead convener headed by DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado.

Other members includes Department of Interior and Local Government-10 (DILG-10), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-10), and Department of Agrarian Reform-10 (DAR-10) with the officials of the local government unit (LGU) of Pangantucan.

The workshop aims to increase the participant’s knowledge of the NCI-SRD and its Manual of Operations, develop an initial draft of the necessary sections of the CADP, and set timelines for the development of the CADP.

DA-10 Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga emphasized that collaboration with the RCI-TWG and the LGU is needed in order to achieve the desired outcome of the proposal.

“DA being the lead convener, we truly appreciate your participation in finalizing the CADP for the Muleta watershed. This is a two-way process, which means we need your input in order to generate the necessary details required in the CADP proposal,” said Madriaga.

She further encouraged the participants, especially the officials of the municipality and benefiting barangays to communicate with the agencies their needs in agriculture, environment, and other watershed concerns.

Meanwhile, in a video message, DA Assistant Secretary for Operations and the National Focal Person of NCI-SRD Arnel V. de Mesa, encouraged everyone to give their best efforts in finalizing the Muleta watershed CADP as he hopes for its immediate approval.

He added that it is essential to develop specific programs, activities, and projects within the convergence area while considering all of its ecosystems by operationalizing the Ridge-to-Reef approach.

Teodoro B. Quirante III, Pangantucan municipal agriculturist, said that the approval of the Muleta Watershed CADP will mean so much for the municipality.

“Muleta watershed is a vital water source for the community. For the farmers, it is their source of irrigation and for the entire community, it is our source of potable water and other industrial needs. Hence, its protection and preservation are our priority.”

As of writing, the Muleta Watershed CADP is in its final stages where comments and suggestions from the National Technical Working Group (NTWG) need to be addressed.

Of which, the majority were incorporated and after complying with the necessary details, the CADP will then be forwarded to the National Steering Committee for review and approval. # (CRSeraspe)
