DA-NorMin signifies its support on the campaign against child labor. 

 

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – As the country commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) helmed by Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, joins the Department of Labor and Employment-10 (DOLE-10) on their Araw ng Kalayaan Para sa #BatangMalaya event on June 12, 2023, in this city.

Bearing the theme: “Buong Bansa, Lahat ng Bata, Sama-Sama para sa Batang Malaya”, it highlighted the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL), wherein member-agencies of the Regional Council Against Child Labor (RCACL), including DA-10 through Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga, signed a Memorandum of Agreement, signifying support to prevent or end child labor in their concerned sectors.

According to DOLE, child labor refers to any work or economic activity performed by a child that subjects him/her to any form of exploitation or is harmful to his/her health and safety or physical, mental or psychosocial development.

Based on a PSA special release on Working Children Situation for 2019- 2021 period dated March 3, 2023, the report revealed that there are 1.37 million working children and 935,000 who are engaged in child labor.

Further noting, agriculture being the industry with the most child laborers and identifying Northern Mindanao with the highest child labor incidence.

Alluding to the report, DA-10 RTD Madriaga assured the labor and employment department of the agency’s support to aid in curbing child labor in the agri sector by raising public awareness on this, and optimistically, gain more support from the public.#
