RTD Madriaga of DA-10 is one of the WOAA focal persons who took oath during the first national congress of women on organic agriculture.

 

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To promote and empower women in the field of organic agriculture in the Philippines and other countries in Asia, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) helmed by Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, joins the 1st National Congress of Women on Organic Agriculture in Asia-Philippines during the Organic Asia Congress 2023 in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.

On June 4, the activity was spearheaded by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) Organics Asia, in which local and foreign delegates from around the countries of Asia attended the event.

Said event serves as a platform for raising awareness, inspiring collaboration, and creating supportive networks among participants to address food security and environmental sustainability.

An oathtaking ceremony was also held for the WOAA Phl officers and focal persons, where DA-10 Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga is one of the focal persons in the said organization.

Through its initiatives, WOAA-Phl aims to create a supportive environment where women working in organic agriculture can thrive, contribute to the creation of sustainable food systems, and actively participate in the advancement of organic farming techniques throughout Asia, particularly in the Philippines.

Marivic F. Tagupa, WOAA-Phl founding president, presented the historical evolution of the organization and conveyed that it is a sector group under IFOAM Organics Asia that was launched back in November 2021.

The congress has a range of activities such as keynote speeches and sharing of stories that tackled farming practices, gender equality in agriculture, market opportunities for organic products, and the role of women in sustainable food systems. #(MPMTablon)
