DA-BPI nat’l director pays a visit to Agri-10, tackling mechanisms to boost crops prod’n for local demand, potential export

 

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, PhD pays a visit to the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) headed by Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado on June 26, 2023 at the agency compound here.

With its mission to ensure availability of quality seeds, safety of plant food, and development of crop farming technologies and safeguard the plant industry, Dir. Panganiban met with RED Collado, in the presence of Regional Technical Director Carlota S. Madriaga and Joel S. Rudinas, and DA-BPI Plant Quarantine Service OIC-Regional Manager Arnold S. dela Cruz, Jr.

This is to cascade plans from a national scope down to the regional level, in which the said bureau covers services such as seed certification, seed testing, plant nursery accreditation, plant tissue culture facility accreditation, application for crop and plant varieties protection, issuance of phytosanitary certificate, among others.

Concurrently serving as DA’s National High Value Crops Development and National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture programs, the body briefly discussed on the different mechanisms to augment the production of high valued crops in the region, such as avocado, durian and coffee, among others, thru strengthening the maintenance of nurseries by providing machineries and equipment, the adoption of tissue culture, and firming up laboratories, to address local demand and eventually, for export to other countries.

Further, Dir. Panganiban is in the city for the conduct of an entrance meeting to work out a private company’s export of Hass Avocado to Japan, with a 60-hectare production area in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.# (JLO)
