Agri-10 provides vegetable seeds to the students of a Master program in Lourdes College, which will be used for their social work.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In support of the initiative of the Master of Science and Social Work Graduate School Program of Lourdes College, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10), through its High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), provided 20 packets of garden salad vegetable seed to the students on April 23 at the agency compound, in this city.
Maria Mica Gabrielle Rapha E. Espina, a student coordinator from the said program, said that the activity is in partial fulfillment of their subject Social Work 310, wherein they eye to develop a community based on its identified need.
“The seeds given by the DA-10 will greatly help our chosen community, composed of solo parents from NHA CdeO Bayanihan Village Phase 1, in nurturing their children and their family as it can provide nutritious food, and at the same time, a potential source of livelihood.”
Espina said, noting why they chose to promote urban gardening, “This is not just about growing vegetables, it is also empowering them with a sense of self-sufficiency.”
HVCDP focal person Kersten S. Pagalan said that DA-10, headed by Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, supports such cause as it contributes to attaining food security and food stability in the region.# (CRS)
