Agri-10 through the AMIA program equips farmers in Manticao on Climate Information Service with focus on climate-resilient agriculture practices.

To continue the promotion of new technologies amid climate change, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) under the leadership of Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan conducted a training on Climate Information Service cum Climate-Resilient Agriculture Practices and Planning Workshop on September 4-6 at Upper Malubog, Manticao, Misamis Oriental.

Spearheaded by the DA-10’s Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) program, 43 members from the Upper Malubog Manticao Abaca Farmers’ Association were taught on the Climate Information Services (CIS), a tool used to monitor the weather conditions that can help the farmers plan and adjust their farm activities to avoid losses and damages of their crops brought by the sudden change of climate.

One of the participants, Carlita Madrina expressed that she has learned a lot from the said activity.

“Even though I am a senior citizen and have only a short time left to contribute to farming and apply what I have learned, I intend to pass the knowledge on to the younger generation and those who follow, hoping that it will not go to waste,” she stated.

She furthered that she pins her hopes in seeing the fruits of all the teachings from the DA, as we continue to face the challenge of the changing climate.#(AMBM/Photos supplied)
