DA-10 turns over PhP5.78-M Biosecured swine infra facility to CdeO City

 

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10), through the Livestock Program, officially turned over the biosecured swine fattening facility worth PhP5.78 to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City on November 29, in Brgy. Tuburan, here.

The 2,500-square meter infrastructure facility with perimeter fence is part of the Biosecured Swine Facility project package under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) program.

Said package also includes 300 head of piglets as initial stock worth PhP2.4-M, 639 bags of feed amounting to PhP1.59-M, and drugs and biologics worth PhP143K awaiting to be delivered.

In her message, Acting CdeO City Veterinarian Helen Ann P. Tacandong, DVM said that they will do their best in maintaining the given facility and ensure its sustainability in order to revive the local hog industry in the city after the onslaught of African swine fever (ASF) which greatly affected the whole country.

For his part, DA-10 Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan added that the project package is given to aid the city in repopulating hogs, thus following the rules and regulations of the facility should be adhered.

“We should be strict in implementing our measures with our biosecured facility in order to not contaminate our hogs; no one should be exempted. This being said, we can ensure that our facility will remain pure and will help a lot of our hog raisers in the city.

” Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro City councilor Jay R. Pascual expressed his gratitude to the DA-10 for the said intervention, enabling to help farmers who were greatly affected with the ASF.

The INPSIRE program is implemented in order to repopulate and enhance the local swine industry after experiencing the ASF in 2021. This program aims to recover the sector’s capacity to produce sufficient supply of hogs and pork in the country. # (CRS)
