DA-NorMin continues to support DepEd’s Gulayan sa Paaralan thru its recent provision of agri-inputs and garden equipment to BNHS and SVES of Baungon, Bukidnon.
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The agriculture department in Northern Mindanao (DA-10) reinforces its support to the Gulayan sa Paaralan, with its provision of agri-inputs and gardening equipment to the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of Bukidnon, Baungon District.
Carlene C. Collado, regional executive director of DA-10 turned over the agri-inputs, comprising of squash, ampalaya, pechay, tomato, patola, and kangkong seeds, mushroom fruiting bags, and gardening equipment such as pruning saw and shear, and seedling tray to Baungon National High School (BNHS) Gulayan Coordinator, Hermie M. Quiamco and Charmaine Amor V. Yabo of San Vicente Elementary School (SVES) of Baungon, Bukidnon.
“This seeds distribution is in line with the agency’s aim to increase the country’s food adequacy level during this pandemic,” the director remarked.
Meanwhile, Quiamco shared, DA has always been so supportive in all the agricultural endeavors of their institution and in return, they re-echo the goal of the agency to empower more farmers by setting an example in their community.
He added, the provisions will be a source of nourishment for students and their respective families, at the same time, it can also be a source of income and livelihood.
On the other hand, SVES Gulayan Coordinator Yabo expressed, that DA plays a significant role in DepEd’s advocacy of addressing malnutrition thru the promotion of vegetable production and consumption among school children.
She added, the agency has been instrumental in sustaining DepEd’s in-school feeding program for the children, encouraging them to plant varieties of leafy and non-leafy vegetables.
Gulayan sa Paaralan aims to promote vegetable production in the primary and secondary public schools to establish and maintain ready food basket for their supplementary feeding, and serve as hub for learners for small-scale food production models.
