In support to the Organic Agriculture program, DA-BSWM turns over six units of composting facilities for biodegradable waste amounting to P5.7-M to different LGUs and farmer groups in Region 10.

 

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In addressing waste management, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM) turned over six units of composting facilities for biodegradable waste (CFBW) amounting to P5.7 million.

The beneficiaries include the local government units of Sinacaban, Panaon of Misamis Occidental; Provincial LGU –Lanao del Norte; CLGU Cagayan de Oro City; Oroquieta Dangan Volunteers Association, Oroquieta City; and, Lantapan Vegetable Farmers Marketing Cooperative, Lantapan, Bukidnon.

DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado said the facility package for biodegradable waste comprises a shredder machine with a rotary composter.

He added that the intervention is in support to the promotion and development of Organic Agriculture in the Philippines through appropriate technologies and practices to restore soil fertility.

Soil and Water Area Coordinator Engr. Armando B. Arcamo of DA-BSWM and his team also demonstrated the proper handling of the machine in consonance with the mandate of the agency’s proper composting of biodegradable wastes.

Engr. Arcamo urged the LGUs, academe, farmer associations to venture into organic farming through the utilization of biomass, and not to only rely on inorganic farming but promote the proper waste management in their areas. # (MPMT/Photo credits: MPMT, Prov’l Agri LDN)
