Agri-10 conducts enterprise profiling and assessment for the farmers’ coop in NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In a bid to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of agricultural enterprises in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10), through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), staged the Enterprise Profiling and Assessment Activities on August 11 to 13, this city.

Held in line with the Republic Act (RA) No. 11321, also known as the Sagip Saka Act, and the RA No. 8435, or the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA) of 1997, the three-day activity aimed to profile and assess the business operations of Farmers’ Cooperatives, Associations (FCAs), Farmers and Fisherfolk Enterprises (FFEs), and Agri-Fishery Enterprises (AFEs).

The undertaking also examined current market trends, demand-supply gaps, and key market linkages to determine opportunities for product diversification and market expansion of agribusiness enterprises in the region. To complement the profiling process, a Training Needs Assessment (TNA) was likewise conducted to determine specific capability-building requirements.

In her message, Regional Technical Director (RTD) for Operations, Carlota S. Madriaga, underscored the importance of accurate enterprise profiling and assessment as a foundation for designing effective interventions that directly address the needs of the agriculture and fisheries sector.

RTD Madriaga further encouraged the participants to apply the insights gained from the activity in strengthening their organizational capacities and enhancing their role in the region’s agri-fishery value chain.

As part of the ways forward, the data gathered will enable the Department to develop targeted interventions and provide support tailored to the unique needs of each enterprise. The initiative is expected to improve market positioning and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the agriculture and fisheries sector in Northern Mindanao.

The enterprise profiling and assessment undertaking is also scheduled for implementation in the provinces of Bukidnon, Lanao, and Misamis Occidental in the succeeding weeks to extend the same capability-building support and strategic guidance to agri-fishery enterprises across the region.

The conduct of the said activity forms part of DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance programs, in support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas directive, which envisions a food-secure nation with a robust agriculture sector by empowering farmers and fisherfolk enterprises, enhancing market competitiveness, and fostering sustainable agribusiness growth nationwide.# (EJLG)
