CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) joins the celebration of the High Value Crops Week with the theme: “Green Revolution: Road Towards Exportation” at the agency compound, starting April 17 until April 20, 2023.
Leading the event were DA-10 OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado, Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga, and High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) focal person Kersten S. Pagalan.
RED Collado said that the activity provides the knowledge and skills to increase farmers’ income and other relevant stakeholders, at the same time improving the livelihood through the agricultural production and sale of high value crops.
Kicking off said observance is a series of lectures focusing on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), the importance of food safety, banana exportation and importation, pineapple, vegetable and coconut production.
Of which, the cited topics were tackled by representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) – Plant Product Safety Services Division, BPI – Plant Quarantine Services, Del Monte Philippines, Inc., Lantapan Vegetable Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), respectively.
Other slated activities include the conduct of a Kadiwa Trade Fair on April 18, and another batch of discussions emphasizing vanilla production, flower arrangement, urban container household gardening, coffee cupping, Nestle coffee quality acceptance, and a demonstration on wine processing.
The conduct of a high value crops cooking contest, flower arrangement and beautification contest, wine and coffee identification, High Value mukbang edition and HVCDP trivia contest were also set for the celebration.
HVCDP is one of the banner programs of DA which focuses on the production, processing, marketing, and distribution of high value crops in order to help achieve food self-sufficiency, economic growth, and improve consumers’ health and welfare.# (MPMTablon, Photo credits: RLTolentino)
