DA-10 backs Baliangao town’s push for “Gulayan sa Barangay”, turns over veggie seeds
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10) supports Baliangao town in Misamis Occidental in its drive to promote community-level food production through the provision of vegetable seeds.
Funded through the agency’s Various Production Support Services (VPSS) program, 50 packets of 5-in-1 pinakbet vegetable seeds were turned over today, August 7, at the agency compound.
VPSS Project Development Officer I Razel Niña C. Orcullo handed over the said veggie seed packets to Baliangao’s Agricultural Technician Rey Max B. Omandam.
“These seeds will directly support the implementation of ‘Gulayan sa Barangay’ across our 15 barangays, and any surplus of this will be allocated to Gulayan sa Paaralan to further promote gardening in schools,” said the agri-technician.
Ideal for backyard growers, each packet contains staples for pinakbet: ampalaya, yardlong bean, okra, eggplant, and squash.
“[Busa] mapasalamaton kami sa DA-10 kay [bisan sa gagmay nga panginahanglan], ilabi na sa mga mahilig maggarden kanunay sila sa pagsuporta. Isip technician sa among LGU, naningkamot pud mi nga makaprovide sa ilaha,” he added.
(And we are grateful to DA-10 for being responsive, even to our smallest needs, especially for those who love gardening. As LGU technician[s], we also do our best to provide for them.)
This initiative aims to boost backyard, small-scale cultivation among households and schools, aligned with the DA’s thrust to strengthen food security and accessibility through gardening.# (BJCE)
