4 February, CdeO City – DA-RFO 10 OIC RED Carlene C. Collado calls for African Swine Fever (ASF) emergency meeting with the provincial and city vets, BAI-NVQS, NMIS, NORMINHOG, The Oro Vets and other hog raisers of Region 10 to assess the region’s status and preparation after the confirmed ASF incidence in Davao Occidental.

RED Collado emphasized to strenghten the protection of all border points to prevent the region from being affected with ASF in close coordination with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and the LGUs.

The preliminary meeting also aims to come up with a doable action plan which will be submitted to Secretary William D. Dar of DA.

Mayor Rey B. Buhisan of Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, Vice-Mayor Peter M. Unabia of Gingoog City and Councilor Mai Okinlay Gumban of Impasug-ong,Bukidnon signified its support and commitment of the group’s action plan on ASF control strategies.

Further, the meeting was called to support Region 11 thru logistics, supplies and identify other assistance that can be extended to them.#

LGU Kadingilan, Bukidnon under the helm of Mayor Jerry O. Canoy, Sr. who was represented by Councilor Jerry A. Canoy received on February 3, 2020 Php5.8-M Solar-Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) and Php6.9-M worth of Farm-to-Market Roads (FMR) from DA-RFO 10 thru OIC-RED Carlene C. Collado earlier today, February 3, 2020. #

The barangay of Lumbia, in the city of Cagayan de Oro will soon house the P9.7-million seed storage with warehouse, as officials of DA-RFO 10 led by OIC-RED Carlene C. Collado and PLGU-MisOr together with the Project contractor, held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 17, 2019.

In his message, Dir. Collado said that with the completion of the Project, buffer stocking of seeds intended for calamity-stricken areas will be strengthened by maintaining the quality (germination rate) of seeds. Further, highlighting that the warehouse will serve as storage for farm equipment and other DA interventions ready for distribution to targeted recipients within the Region, especially in Misamis Oriental. #

 

With the aim of being disaster resilient, the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) joins the coastal cleanup in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month 2019.

Spearheaded by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council – Region 10 (RDRRMC-10), the DA RFO-10 together with the different government agencies in the region and community members took part in cleaning the 500-meter coastal area in Molugan, El Salvador City, earlier today, July 12, 2019.

“The coastal cleanup has a huge impact. It is not only a noble activity but also a form of information campaign and awareness to the community that we should clean the coastal areas,” said CDRRMC head Teddy Bombeo of El Salvador City.

Meanwhile, OIC-Administrator and City Agriculturist Nolly Adrian B. Gabule highlighted the importance of mangrove as the breeding ground of marine species aside from protecting the coastal areas from strong waves and currents.

This year’s celebration bears with the theme, “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligro Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago.”#

DA-PLGU IOs get to channel their learnings on the fundamentals of news writing, as they listen on to Honorio S. Cervantes, an urban square gardening advocate during its mock press conference in their two-day capabuild.

Thirty information officers (IOs) from the Department of Agriculture (DA), its attached bureaus and agencies and a provincial local government unit (PLGU) in Region 10 convened for the conduct of a Capability Building on News Writing.

Angelilah T. Cabig, Public Relations Officer II and OIC-Chief of the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section (RAFIS) of DA-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) said that the activity is an opportune time for the IOs and their alternates to revisit the fundamentals of news writing, which forms part in their responsibility of informing and updating agricultural stakeholders.

As the trend of communicating has evolved, she underscored the need for IOs to enhance their knowledge and skills in news writing to better communicate key messages.

Accordingly, Cabig said this will ultimately help the IOs encourage more agri-clienteles to contribute in achieving DA’s thrusts and priorities through the availment of its programs and services, as well as from the PLGUs.

News writing, ranging from its sources, attribution, basic facts, types, patterns, leads and styles were discussed through writeshops and a mock press conference, guest starred by Honorio S. Cervantes, an urban square gardening advocate.

Participating are representatives from DA-RFO 10, its attached bureaus and agencies: Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority, Philippine Coconut Authority, National Irrigation Administration, National Food Authority, and from PLGU-Bukidnon.

For this year, the said capabuild is just one among the targeted trainings for the IOs and their alternates, which is spearheaded by RAFIS of DA-RFO 10.

Cagayan de Oro, January 30 – To facilitate interventions for animal health and food safety, Korean consultants from KMAC and Seoul National University convened with Region 10’s livestock stakeholders for a meeting on the Establishment of Philippine Food Animal and Animal Products Traceability and Quality Evaluation Systems. Said meeting primarily solicited inputs from participating agencies and an association relative to their laws for institutionalization, functionalities, structure, work flows, challenges and targeted projects.

Accordingly, this information will help the Korean consultants together with implementing agencies such as the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) to determine appropriate interventions for its potential Project site. Of which, will enhance the transparency and quality assurance in the production of meat and meat products, distribution and marketing.

The pool of livestock stakeholders from Northern Mindanao comprises the Department of Agriculture (DA) regional field office, NMIS, provincial and city veterinary offices of Misamis Oriental and CdeO, National Veterinary Quarantine Services, and the NorMinHog Raisers Association, Inc.

Counterparts from the Central Office were also in attendance from DA through its Project Development Service and Information and Communications Technology Service, NMIS and BAI.

Further, site observations and interviews were also done by the Korean team to DA-10’s Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, different farms, a dressing plant, slaughterhouse and a major market within the city. #

Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental – Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol underscored the need for farmers to adopt to the different agri-machinery and equipment innovations to foment the mechanization rate in the country.

This, he bared, during the opening of the two-day Farm Machinery and Equipment Roadshow, held in the town earlier today, January 29, 2019, where the DA chief added that it is imperative for farmers to plant some more because of the country’s increasing population. Of which, he explained, can be ably done through farm mechanization.

Recognizing the roadshow will spark the interest of farmers and local government unit representatives in the availment of agri-machinery and equipment, Sec. Piñol reported that just three weeks ago, he approved the Agri-Fisheries Mechanization Loaning Program.

Said Program, he stressed, will assist farmers in having access to loans for the procurement of their preferred farm machinery and equipment. Further, he said that more help is on the way with the impending approval of the Rice Tariffication Bill, which will apportion Php5-billion annually for farm mechanization in the next six years. # (JLOlson)

To contribute in drumming up the mechanization level in the country, the Farm Machinery and Equipment Roadshow kicks off on January 29, 2019, in the town of Laguindingan.

In his message during its opening, OIC-Regional Director Carlene C. Collado said that with the increasing population, there is a need to increase the level of farm mechanization to produce more food with efficiency and quality, which will be beneficial for farmers and consumers alike.

He added, that through gaining knowledge and soon, adopting the state-of-the-art farming technologies featured in the road show, DA is hopeful that the farm mechanization rate of the country will increase from 2.31 horsepower (hp) per hectare to 4 hp/ha.

Said roadshow was realized through DA and Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization together with Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative and FIT Corea Trading Philippines. # (JLOlson)

The Mindanao Zonal Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Network assembled for its first quarter meeting on January 23-25, 2019 in the city of Cagayan de Oro.

Delegates from the Research Divisions in Mindanao along with the representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Bureau of Soils and Water Management gathered to discuss issues and matters on research and development as well as upcoming activities for the year 2019.

Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) Regional Technical Director Carmelita T. Bajarla, who presided the meeting, presented the agenda of the activity which included the participation to the National Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) Congress, DA- Bureau of Agricultural Research’s (DA-BAR) memorandum on data validation request for DA projects, among others.

One of the issues raised was on the Intellectual Property (IP) rights application for Mindanao-generated technologies for the protection of local researchers.

To this, the researchers have agreed to elevate the issue to the Research Management Meeting next month for a more detailed discussion.

Meanwhile, in his message, DA-RFO 10 OIC-Regional Director Carlene C. Collado shared that the region is currently pushing for an agro-tourism accreditation for its research stations and encouraged the other regions to do the same.

He also noted the importance of securing land titles for DA properties and concreting of its fences to avoid issues with illegal settlers.

With this, a resolution by the body will be crafted to push for land titling on DA properties, most especially for research stations.

Meanwhile, the RDE network seeks for the unity of Mindanao researchers in addressing research and development concerns. #(AMBManto)

Director Carlene C. Collado, CPA renders his message to RAFC-10 members during its first quarter meeting on January 23, 2019 in the city of Cagayan de Oro.

To strengthen partnerships among agri-fishery stakeholders in Region 10, the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council-10 (RAFC-10) met for its regular consultative meeting on January 23, 2019 in the city of Cagayan de Oro.

RAFC-10 Chair, Edgardo D. Layug, presented the agenda which include AFC monitoring activities, 2018 Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF)-RAFC fund, 2018 adopted resolutions, 2019 DA plans and programs and other issues and concerns.

Meanwhile, Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) OIC-Regional Director Carlene C. Collado emphasized in his message, the importance of strengthening the partnership of the stakeholders in helping the agency in implementing its programs and projects for the benefit of the farmers and fisherfolk.

Collado also recognized the attendance of the uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army for their support to the agriculture sector. It can be recalled that the troops rendered their support during the conduct of the National Volunteers’ Day on December 6, 2018, held in Cagayan de Oro City.

To this, they were also awarded with certificates of appreciation along with the other stakeholders who supported the activity. He also noted that for this year, one of DA-10’s thrust is to help the uniformed personnel.

“The agency can provide the troops with farm machineries and inputs as long as they have available areas for farming in their respective camps,” Collado shared.

He then urged them to submit project proposals and scheduled a meeting with them to further discuss the details regarding the matter.

Also in attendance were line agencies such as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), National Food Authority (NFA), Philippine Crops Insurance, Corp. (PCIC), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) who also help the council in promoting its mandates and programs. # (AMBManto)
